Time for A Mental Detox

Life is a journey in which the primary goal is to live each day on purpose and the ultimate goal is to complete the special assignment you came to deliver into this world. Success is the fulfilment of the divine purpose of your life. However along this journey so many negative and toxic things come to clutter your path, drain your energy, cloud your vision and blunt your passion. These come from the environment and enter into your spirit and soul through the gateways of hearing, seeing, thinking or feeling. When they get into your soul they weigh you down and slow down your progress. Today I want to share with you why it’s important to mentally detox so that you can function at an optimal level and run your race without any encumbrances.

Understanding Your System

I would like to quickly define the architecture of a human being in order to put everything into perspective. You are a spirit with a soul living in a body. The spirit is the nerve centre of your life. The soul is the operational centre of your life and seat of emotions. The body is just a shell or protective vehicle housing the spirit and soul. Just as the body is subjected to toxins from the types of food and sometimes the medical substances which you take in, the soul can also be subjected to toxic substances which build negative strongholds, bitterness, scepticism, intolerance, hatred, and related emotional toxics. If the nerve and operational centres of your life are weighed down by toxics, life becomes a drag and your progress slows down. If these centres are attacked the ability to dream, the will to do and the determination to win are immobilised. How then can you get the systems working optimally?

Cut Out The Junk

Medical people will tell you that the junk food we eat intoxicates our bodies and slows us down. It accelerates aging and intensifies degenerative diseases. The spirit and the soul also feed on what you hear, see, touch or think. Junk food for your soul or spirit includes negative news, gossip, careless banter, criticism. You become what you observe! The focus of your attention spreads its influence all through your life. What you see with your spiritual eyes obsesses you—it takes over! On the face of it watching TV throughout the weekend doesn’t seem to be wrong, but the eyes of your soul will see and record the ‘role models’ and actions of what you see. Advertising plays on this principle – the more you ‘see it’ the more you ‘become it’. It doesn’t matter how macho you are – certain behaviour codes are etched into your subconscious mind and start to influence your life unwittingly. This emotional debris will stagnate your progress and cause your life to go around in circles. There is only one way to deal with this – cut out the junk – it’s just not worth it!

Nourish Your Spirit and Soul

Emotional toxins prevent you from running with endurance and fulfilling your divine purpose and cause you to abort your God-given dreams.  Protect what God has given you.  You need to fast from the things that destroy your soul and feast on the things that nourish it by setting aside time everyday to fortify you inner person. Read books, especially the Bible and materials which build your confidence, courage and strength. Remove clutter from your life. Don’t hang out with negative folks who weigh you down. Obsess yourself with images of glory – the more you look the more your life will become glorious. Above all keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip. Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left. Run the race that is before you with endurance laying aside every weight.

Keep on marching this March.
